The day I realised I didn’t want any part in animal suffering is a day I had incredible clarity about my role in the world. Well actually, about a role I didn’t wish to play in this world. It just didn’t feel right to condone so much suffering for the sake of a couple of bits of cheese or a pot of yoghurt.

My decision to be vegan was very clear but what was unclear was how to go about it. Being raised vegetarian I knew and loved most vegan foods but I wanted to make sure my transition to veganism was healthy and sustainable.

I reached out and looked for a nutritionist who specialises in helping people go vegan. I chose Amy Hanningan because she also helps sports people achieve optimum health. Since I am fitness focused and I love weight training Amy was a natural choice.

I have been working with Amy over the past three months, she has been helping me plan my meals, snacks and she has advised me on the supplements I need to be taking in order to be healthy and happy. My transition to veganism has been very easy thanks to her help and guidaince.

Another nutritionist I had the pleasure of meeting is Fiona Halar. I attended Fiona’s workshop at the Intuitive Well and I have to say she knows her stuff. A full room of vegans and vegans-in-training absorbed her every word as she spoke about amino acids, vegan proteins, cyanide in supplements and other fascinating stuff. I must go to another one of her workshops, she really helped me understand that a vegan diet is in no way inferior and has absolutely everything I need to be healthy and happy.

If you are transitioning to veganism do consider talking to a nutritionist specialising in vegan nutrition. They will give you peace of mind and a great deal of enthusiasm for your cruelty free lifestyle.

    I myself, as well with living a vegan lifestyle aspire to become a nutritionist, I was just wondering what was it that made both of your decisions to become vegan and more so nutritionists?
