Saturday mornings are fabulous – it’s the first morning of the week that we can go out for a delicious brunch after a slow and lazy morning. Now they are even more fabulous because my local patisserie just introduced a delicious vegan menu! I gathered some of my lovely friends for a meal and I wanted to share the photos with you.
Strawberry Fields Patisserie is a Dulwich Hill institution. Simon, the owner of Strawberry Fields, is a French trained baker and pastry chef and his delicacies have won multiple awards. My omni hubby absolutely loves Simon’s cakes and I am so thrilled they now have vegan options.
The now permanent vegan menu includes:
- Crunchy granola suite – homemade granola served with poached pear, stewed rhubarb and almond milk
- Vegan brunch – avocado, tomato and rocket, pear and walnut salad with mustard dressing, served with their freshly baked bread
- Hot cross buns (and yes they have Nuttelex!)
- Banana and chocolate cupcakes
- Vegan milkshakes
- Iced coffee and iced chocolate
There were six of us for brunch this morning and we slowly ate our way through the menu. I had the granola and it is heavenly! Easily my new favourite. Full of flavour and sweetness and the sharpness of the rhubarb cut through that sweetness nicely. Poached pear = most brilliant invention ever.
Lisette and Clotilde had the vegan brunch and they loved the salad dressing on the pear, walnut and rocket salad. The bread was freshly baked inhouse and you really can’t go wrong with avo and tomato – a winning combination every time.
After this we had the banana and chocolate cupcakes and hot cross buns. The cupcakes were light and moist, and the hot cross buns were the best I have tasted so far. The dough was light, packed with flavour (and fruit) and the glaze added just enough sweetness. I contemplated having a second one, it was hard to say no…
Verdict: If you’re in the inner west you have to visit Strawberry Fields and try their vegan menu. I highly recommend it!
